Using the Ser # field for Trademark Conflict Matters

Hello Fellow AppColl users! I am working with our trademark staff on implementing efficiencies in AppColl for Trademark and related matters (oppositions, etc.).
Currently, we use the opposition number field for the identifying proceeding number in all conflict matters where it is available, however, I am curious if anyone has used the Ser # field in the top half of the bibliographic details for searching purposes. To me, this feels intuitive, however since the field isn't an exact match to this query, others have concerns.
My thoughts on this are as follows: . Traditionally, any serial number for a matters is entered next to the filing date in the Ser # field, which is the unique number identifying the matter that corresponds with said filing date. Which, in conflict instances, the opposition/cancellation action number is the identifying serial (or sometimes identified as ‘proceeding’) number.
We would still enter this number in the corresponding field in the lower half of the matter, however for searching purposes, I would like to propose to integrate this into our firm's practices.

Alternatively, let us know how you use the fields for trademark conflicts, re: serial number as basis for opposition, etc. We have had some issues with consistency, so I'm trying to create a dialogue for the team to base their decisions and/or concerns on.
