Option to link Task Owner to Name fields
-
The Task Owner field should have an option to function as a relative field. In other words, there should be an option to link the Task Owner field to one of the other Name fields (Attorney, Partner, Paralegal, Contributor, or even Contacts). This way, if an attorney has to be changed, for example, the Task Owner field will update when the Attorney field is updated. As opposed to how it is now, where these fields are not linked, so the updates have to be done manually. Thank you.

@AppCollS2261 That's great--I would, however, make sure that:
a) The update only happens to tasks that have the same role as the task owner (for example, if you change the attorney for several matters, you'd only want to update the tasks for those matters that had the previous attorney as the owner--you wouldn't want to make the new attorney, for example, the owner of tasks owned by the paralegals for the matter).
b) The update only happens to "open" tasks--the "owner" of closed tasks is a historical record of which person handled that closed task. It shouldn't be changed (or, at the least, make it an option that you have to opt into in order to bulk-update the owner of closed-out tasks).
Looking forward to this.

Hello Russell - We are implementing the following changes, which should be released soon.
When someone bulk updates the attorney for multiple matters they will be presented with a popup to change the underlying tasks to one of the following: attorney, partner, paralegal or contributor. We will let you know when this has been done.

@ChristianS2558 Agreed!

@JasonP2345 I also agree, but with a caveat--once a task is closed out, then the owner should not change dynamically. Or there should be a way to choose whether or not the owner should be updated dynamically for closed-out tasks.
Closed-out tasks are historical records, indicating how a task was closed out, who was responsible for it when it was closed out, etc. Having that data change when a matter is reassigned to a new attorney or other contact could lead to misunderstandings as to who did what later.
Open tasks, however, are the responsibility of whoever they are assigned to, and it makes sense to update those to reflect whoever is assigned to a particular role for a matter when matter contacts are updated.
Otherwise, I agree that this would be a very useful feature. Right now, we have to manually bulk update all tasks to have new owners when we reassign matters. It is a drag.

Yes, I agree this would be very helpful. By having an option to select a relative field (e.g., matter.attorney) as the "Owner" of a task, the system should be able to update who the task is assigned to, particularly when the matter is reassigned to a different individual (e.g., the Attorney of the matter is updated to a different person). Without this, updating the "Attorney" field of the matter does not (and will not) update owners of any Tasks, so it's necessary to change them separately.
This seems like a very easy change and is really important.
