I'm probably not the first one to ask this but it seems that AppColl has no API.
Setting up one could overcome the following:

Might be a stupid question but couldn't find the answer online.
How come we cannot set a matter status as "withdrawn"? (which is different from all the other status, such as "abandoned")
If this doesn't exist, could AppColl create that status with the associated date (although the associated date of the withdrawal doesn't have hte same importance as the abandonment date as regards third-parties)?

I 100% agree with you but, as you said, AppColl is 100% customizable on that matter, so we have created all the EPO-related tasks ourselves.
We looked at how the native tasks were set up in AppColl (usually a event triggering a task, with notifications associated) and replicated the process.
It was a bit of work, especially since we wanted to do it in the most efficient way, but it's working well.
Our patent workload is not massive (we're inhouse) so we create a new type of task each time we receive new type of communication from the EPO.
@gregg_appcoll Hi everyone, in that regard it would be nice if we could set the fields that are automatically copied for any duplicate (for example if we file a national phase several fields should be automatically duplicated and some should not - especially the custom fields)
Either appcoll natively handles that but since the application type is oftentimes customized this would trigger difficulties on your side. If we, user, can control that, that would be a great customizable feature!
