RE: Import 892 Forms
It would be too hard for me to convert JSON to CSV and likely too hard for some other users. It sure would be nice if AppColl could make it automatic.

RE: Has anyone configured for task to be assigned to more than one owner?
I believe that an underlying tenet of AppColl tasks, and most docketing system tasks in general, is that one and only one person is responsible for a task. Surely, within the processes of a multi-person firm or company, the person doing the task will rely on the involvement of others. However, that one person is responsible for ensuring that the task is complete and then closing it in AppColl.
It would be possible to have two separate tasks, such as one for the working attorney and another for the supervising attorney. You might even have one generated as an effect of the other becoming closed.
But, just as tasks have one and only one respond-by date and one and only one final due date, they also have one and only one owner. That's the person who receives a holiday card when something goes right and where the fingers point when something goes wrong.

RE: In-House Counsel Using AppColl
@JasonP2345 I would be glad to. I am a fairly experienced AppColl user and in-house at a tech company "shadow" docketing a portfolio prosecuted by multiple outside law firms.

RE: Add a link to the "Matter Prior Art" for a Matter on the Matter Page.
@mike_appcoll Thank you for doing Learning Series tutorials on often overlooked features. But please also always consider why often overlooked features are often overlooked. Perhaps some eventual user interface tweaks will result in fewer features being often overlooked.

RE: Add a link to the "Matter Prior Art" for a Matter on the Matter Page.
I had the same question and made a feature request only to have the AppColl support team let me know about the tiny unlabeled icons near the top. I bet that other users haven't discovered the valuable features that can be invoked by the tiny unlabeled icons near the top. Perhaps if they were more prominent and each had a descriptive word, users would discover them.

RE: Set "Favorite" form letters/customize form letter list
@support_appcoll I use the search feature, but this is a valuable request for 2 reasons.
-
It would be more convenient than searching if your most recently used forms are right at the top.
-
It is easy to forget a form that you like to file (e.g. authorization of internet communication). Then 3 years later you realize that you forgot to do it, so you have to do a special filing project then. If the most recently used forms were at the top of the list, it would be easier to remember all of the ones that you like to file.

RE: Update notes in bulk
I think not. That seems like a good feature request.

RE: Open search field under module tabs
An example of my attorney ref format would be T567AU1 for a trademark (T) application filing in matter family 567 (567) in country AU (AU) being the first application (1) filed in that country in that family. Using that system, search results are ordered by family then by country. As long as all members of the family have the same title, and the search query matches that title, the results will be ordered alphabetically by country, and I can tell which country because the search box results show the attorney ref on the left of all other information.

RE: [Meta] Have any of the product requests made it into Appcoll?
Some of us griping users would feel more gratified seeing new features rolled out feature by feature rather than in batches every 3 or 4 months. However, please make gratification of us griping users secondary to a high quality and efficient engineering process.

RE: Escape key to cancel
An example dialog box is rendered with this HTML.
<td class="TaskDialogData" colspan="2" id="SingleTaskCompleteFooter">
<input type="submit" name="ctl00$ModalPopupContent$SingleTaskCompleteOk" value="Set Status" onclick="isPostBack=true;SaveHidden(NoChangePostBackHiddenID, '1'); if (Page_ClientValidate('SingleTaskCompleteValidators')) $find('SingleTaskCompletePopup').hide();WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("ctl00$ModalPopupContent$SingleTaskCompleteOk", "", true, "SingleTaskCompleteValidators", "", false, false))" id="ctl00_ModalPopupContent_SingleTaskCompleteOk" style="width:8em;" />
<input type="submit" name="ctl00$ModalPopupContent$SingleTaskCompleteCancel" value="Cancel" onclick="ResetValidators();ClearTaskStatusBox();$find('SingleTaskCompletePopup').hide(); return false;WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("ctl00$ModalPopupContent$SingleTaskCompleteCancel", "", true, "", "", false, false))" id="ctl00_ModalPopupContent_SingleTaskCompleteCancel" style="width:8em;" />
</td>I think that if you added to the value="Cancel" line an onkeyup (not onkeypress, which ignores ESC) parameter with essentially the same code as you have for the onclick but put within if ( event.keyCode == 27 ) {...} then it might just work.

RE: Import 892 Forms
I have wondered the same thing. If the USPTO publishes prior art citation information in any format other than rasterized images of text, it's a good request for AppColl to get it. If the USPTO doesn't, that's a good product request for them.

Congrats.
Jeff is, indeed, awesome.

RE: Additional Sorting and Grouping Capabilities
I created a report of all my matters. I sorted it by Application Number then by Examiner Name so that Examiner Name is that main sorting criteria. For any given examiner name, the application numbers were in order. I saved it as a new test report. I opened some other report and then opened my test report. The matters were sorted by examiner name, but for any given examiner name, the application numbers were in no predictable order.
If there is an existing way to save a report with a multi-level sort as Kim requests, I would love to know.

RE: Attorney Matters button
A simple "Matters" button in a Contact view that shows all matters with which the contact is associated in any way would work great for me.
-
RE: Admin-modifiable UI
One might generalize the request as an ability to specify the order of any field (custom or standard) within the 2 (actually 3) columns of a Matter view.
-
RE: Additional Sorting and Grouping Capabilities
@MikeO5888 I do not think that what you describe is what @KimG5166 is requesting. She would like to do a multi-level sort without filtering. Unless there is a way to filter on a column in a way that always matches all values, using levels of filters would hide information that @KimG5166 wants to see.
If I've misunderstood, please let me know.

Attorney Matters button
In a Contact view for an Inventor I see a button in the left panel called Inventor Matters (X) where X is the number of matters for which the contact is named as an inventor. Clicking the button brings up a Matters report filtered for all of those X matters.
I would love it if there was an Attorney Matters (X) button in the Contact view for an Attorney.
Similarly, a Paralegal Matters (X) button, a Law Firm Matters (X) button, and basically a <Role> Matters (X) button for each kind of Role that can be assigned to a contact.

RE: <NewField> AdjustedExpirationDate
Dear AppColl,
Please implement this request with high priority. While this is not a big deal for professional prosecutors, it is a big deal for users who use AppColl to manage portfolios.
Thank you.

RE: More Granular Control Over Priority Connections
I support the request.
However, I would not worry about legal jeopardy. The choices in the "Continuity Type" field in the USPTO ADS form are just for the administrative convenience of the USPTO. They are not important for patent validity in court. 35 USC 120 is the relevant statute that would matter in litigation.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/35/120
A 35 USC 120 benefit claim requires that the application "contains or is amended to contain a specific reference to the earlier filed application". It does not require a designation of a "Continuity Type".
Interestingly, in the US patent laws (35 USC) there is no concept of a continuation or continuation-in-part as a type of patent application.
Nothing here is legal advice. Consult your own attorney. If you are an attorney, don't take my word, look it up.

RE: XLSX format report export with UTF-8 character encoding
I think that I have to take back my thank you.
I recently setup and automatic report for my finance department to use to report the patent portfolio to investors. The Asian characters were question marks. He specifically requested that I find a way to send a spreadsheet report with the patent titles using Asian characters.
-
RE: XLSX format report export with UTF-8 character encoding
@AppColl
I just exported a CSV file with Asian characters and they showed up in MS Excel and a text editor. That is very helpful for me. Whatever you did to make that work, thank you.
I would still love to have an XLSX option with nifty things like adjusted column widths, row coloring, and multiple reports as tabs. But, you have resolved 90% of what I was hoping for.
Thank you.

RE: Parse email subject line for Docket Number/Client Reference
My concern would be that it gives the external email sender the ability to mess up my docketing by using the wrong reference number.
A common example might be when there is a notice of allowance in a matter ending in "US1" and the client asks for a continuation that will be docketed as "US2", but the email thread continues with "US1" in the subject line then any attached documents that get stored or tasks that get created will be associated with the wrong matter. Even worse is if the reference number is "123_US1" and the email sender accidentally makes it "13_US1" and that causes tasks to get created in the wrong patent family in a way that might be confusing for some users to back out and correct.

Task User Fields
It would be nice to have TextBox, DropDown, MultiSelect, and Date custom user fields for tasks like there are for matters.
